Älg is a Swedish learning app. You can use all learning modes without an account; in that case nothing that identifies you leaves your device. This page describes what is collected in each case and why.
Your progress — learned, favorite and ignored words, review schedule, completed stories, daily activity and settings — is stored only on your device.
Creating an account is optional. If you sign in (with Apple, Google or e-mail), we store:
Accounts and progress are stored with Microsoft Azure. We do not use this data for advertising and do not share it with anyone else.
The AI chat is available to signed-in users. When you send a message, the message, the recent messages of the same conversation, a summary of your progress (for example how many words you have learned and your streak) and, if you opened the chat from a word, that word are sent to our server and passed on to Google’s Gemini API to produce the answer. Our server does not store the conversation; the chat history is kept on your device. Please do not include personal information in chat messages.
The app uses TelemetryDeck to understand how it is used: which screens and features are opened, how far onboarding gets, the translation language and level you selected, and basic technical details such as app version and device model. These signals carry no name, e-mail, account or advertising identifier, and nothing you type or study. The identifier TelemetryDeck receives is a hashed, anonymised value that we cannot trace back to you or connect to your account.
Pronunciation practice uses the microphone and Apple’s speech recognition, and only when you start it. We do not receive or store the recordings.
You can delete your account in the app: open the Profile tab, tap your avatar and choose Delete Account. The account and the progress stored with it are removed from our servers right away and cannot be restored. In rare cases Microsoft, which runs our sign-in, keeps the deleted account for up to 30 days before erasing it for good; it is not used during that time. Progress kept on the device stays there until you delete the app.
If you signed in with Apple, you can also stop using Sign in with Apple for Älg in your Apple Account settings.
If you cannot use the app, write to the address below from the e-mail of your account and we will delete it for you.
